Simple tips on how to care for cutlery
31.01.2023Extend its lifespan to the maximum

Stainless steel cutlery is highly resistant, taste-neutral, safe for health, and shape-stable. However, over time, even the highest quality cutlery can develop deposits or dull spots. How to avoid it?
The obvious basis is to wash the cutlery after each use. This will prevent prolonged contact with foods that can damage its surface or change its colour. If you adopt these few tips, your cutlery will shine much longer than you would expect.
Cutlery care tips
Hand washing:
•
Wash the cutlery immediately after each use.
• Do not leave it lying in the sink or soaking in water for long periods of
time. Mineral salts in the water can damage the surface.
• Use a soft sponge and a soap without abrasive properties when cleaning.
Avoid using steel wool.
• Dry it with a soft cloth after washing.

In the dishwasher:
•
Lassen Sie das gebrauchte Besteck nicht in geschlossenem, feuchtem
Geschirrspüler.
• Do not leave used cutlery in a closed, damp dishwasher.
• Check if there is enough salt and polish in it, or if it is not overdosed
with them.
• Remove the limescale from the dishwasher at least once, preferably three
times a year.
• Make sure that the cutlery is suitable for the dishwasher. If you bought it
in our e-shop, you can find this information in the product detail on the
SolaPoint website.
• Place it in the basket head up. Ideally, use a cutlery tray and store it
separately to prevent individual pieces from touching each other. Proper sorting
will protect it from scratches and stains.
• Remove it immediately after the washing cycle is finished and dry it with a
dry cloth.
• Wash silver-plated cutlery and stainless steel separately because any
contact between these materials can cause chemical reactions that damage the
silver. In particular, silver-plated cutlery will not tarnish over time and will
retain its beauty.
• Do not put rusty dishes in the dishwasher. During the washing process, rust
will float (so-called „floating rust“) and may also settle on the
cutlery.

Take care when washing knives
Pay
special attention to the knife blades, whose sharpness relies on a higher carbon
content. This, of course, means that the blades are more susceptible to
corrosion if the knives are not stored and washed properly. Sola recommends not
leaving cutlery soaked or stored in a damp environment, especially in the case
of knife blades, which can be prone to corrosion. Additionally, cutlery may
start losing its shine due to normal wear and tear, but using stainless steel
polishers can successfully restore its shine.
If your cutlery has lost its shine or has rust spots on it, it can be fixed. You
